ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The Missouri National Guard referred to protestors in Ferguson last year as “enemy forces” and “adversaries,” according to documents obtained by CNN.
Missouri State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal of University City says that for the Guard to call American citizens “enemies” crosses the line.
“That word that only describes enemies in different countries, but certainly not Americans citizens that are taxpayers,” Chappelle-Nadal says.
Chappelle-Nadal says that the new revelation validates her fears that last summer would have resulted in another Kent State tragedy. In 1970 at Kent State, four college students were fatally shot by National Guard troops during anti-war demonstrations.
“That’s how bad things were on the ground with law enforcement and the people who were out peacefully protesting,” Chappelle-Nadal says.
